Marianne may go by unnoticed because she's quiet and keeps to herself, but those who interact with her will quickly discover how despondent she is. As the descendant of a bloodline believed to be cursed, she was born with a Crest that is rumored to eventually turn bearers into monsters. Because of this, her father taught her to keep her Crest a secret and avoid contact with others. Her parents disappeared in mysterious circumstances, leading Marianne to blame herself for their untimely fate. Fearful of bringing others misfortune, she has spent most of her life avoiding people. She finds solace in the company of animals, and the time she spends with them is the only time she feels truly at ease. She has great affection for animals and thinks of her horse Dorte as one of her few friends.
Her isolated life has caused her to feel unequipped to handle social situations. After enrolling at Garreg Mach Academy, she finds it difficult to converse with her classmates, not knowing how to carry a conversation and often bringing the mood down with her self-deprecation and gloominess. She thinks harshly of herself, struggling to believe in her worth and feeling like a burden to others.
Contributing to her anxieties are the expectations of her ambitious adoptive father. The Margrave of Edmund is a shrewd and eloquent politician who wishes for Marianne to follow in his footsteps. While Marianne doesn't lack for manners, she is soft-spoken, loses confidence easily, and has trouble speaking up for herself. When her father sends her to the frontlines of the war as Edmund's representative, Marianne heeds his wishes without complaint.
Often seen praying, Marianne is a devout follower of the Church of Seiros. Because of the guilt she feels over her existence, she has questioned whether her life serves any purpose and even prayed to the goddess for death. Despite being told that her fears about her Crest are unfounded, her deeply ingrained feelings are hard to shake. Nevertheless, with the support and encouragement of her classmates, even Marianne can find the courage to take up arms to keep them safe in the war. Perhaps along the way, she can even find something worthwhile in herself.
Abilities:
Faith Magic - Marianne possesses versatile light magic that can be used to heal allies, shut down others' magic, or even attack.
Reason Magic - Marianne wields offensive elemental magic that includes ice-based spells like Blizzard and Fimbulvetr, thunder-based Thoron, and wind-based Cutting Gale. Crest of the Beast - In combat, her Crest may randomly activate to grant her increased strength.
